Amazon vs Etsy vs a Specialist Shop: Where to Buy a Custom Skateboard Deck in the EU
The price on a listing and the price a custom deck costs at your door are two different numbers, and on the marketplaces the gap is the whole story. Etsy's best-selling custom deck shows 36.92 €, and that buys a vinyl sticker. Amazon.es shows 85–101 € for a complete skateboard that arrives five to six weeks later. A specialist shop sells the printed deck for 79.95–89.95 € and ships it in days. Below: the delivered price to an address in Spain, the lead times, who answers when something goes wrong, and where VAT and customs come in.
We're one of the specialist shops, so you know where this is written from. Every third-party figure comes from the seller's own page, with the date we read it, and the links are at the end.

Third-party figures are what each seller's own page showed on the date in the last column, tax included; the seller's name links to it. Amazon and Etsy don't let us re-read their pages automatically, so those carry the date of our September survey. To another EU country the shipping column changes: CustomDecks.eu charges its rate unless the order reaches 200 €, Eina quoted 9.50–35.60 € depending on the country, and ours is 15 to 25 € per order depending on the country, whatever it holds. Amazon and Etsy quote per listing and per destination.
Amazon: a complete skateboard, five or six weeks away
The customisable listings we found on Amazon.es were at 85–101 € with delivery dates of 20–27 October for an order placed on 17 September: 33 to 40 days. A lead time like that means the board is made and shipped from far away, and what's in the box is a complete skateboard with trucks and wheels, not a bare deck. If that's what you wanted, fine; if you wanted a deck to hang, you're paying for hardware you'll never use and waiting five weeks for it.
The other thing Amazon tells you: a branded deck with a stock graphic (Santa Cruz, Zero) was 74.90–82.95 € with free shipping and delivery in days. Amazon is fast and cheap for someone else's graphic and slow for yours. You hand over your design through a form and never see it on the deck before paying; if the print disappoints, Amazon's buyer protection covers "not as described", and the seller you're arguing with is usually a third party.
Etsy: the listed price is the vinyl
The best-selling custom deck listing we opened belongs to IDYD, a shop in the United Kingdom with around 19,600 sales. The 36.92 € on the tile is a printed vinyl sheet you apply yourself. The printed deck is 97.49 €, 112.26 € with a wall mount, and shipping to Spain is 29.53 € on top: 127.02 € at the door. The listing itself warns EU buyers that customs charges may apply, and since the UK left the EU they usually do.
The rest of the Etsy results we noted: 100 € from Lithuania, 149 € from France, 178.58 € from China with 11–20 days of making time before it ships, and 250 € for a hand-painted deck from Spain. Sales are concentrated in two shops; after them the tail is shops with 119, 37, 24 and 14 sales. Etsy's purchase protection covers a parcel that never arrives or an item that isn't as described. What nobody refunds is the import charge you paid the courier at the door.
A specialist shop: the printed deck, from the people who print it
The three we checked in the EU sell a printed 7-ply deck at 79.95 € (CustomDecks.eu, Netherlands), 89.95 € (Eina Skateboard Co., Lleida) and 89 € (us). VAT is in the price, the parcel never crosses a customs border, and the lead time is days, not weeks: CustomDecks says 7–10 working days before shipping, Eina's page says it ships in 24–48 hours, ours leaves the workshop within 72 hours and arrives in Spain 3–5 working days later. Griptape is extra at all three: 7.50 €, 7.99 € and 9.95 €.
Where they differ is how the design gets there. Eina has an online designer, but its instructions end with "download the file, send it to us by email or WhatsApp"; CustomDecks takes an upload against a 9 × 33 inch template at 200–300 dpi. Ours ends at the checkout: what you see on the 3D deck is what's sent to print. And where the specialists lose to each other: CustomDecks ships free from 200 €, so from three decks up it's the cheapest of the three to Spain; Eina offers six widths where we offer 3.
If it goes wrong, the person who answers is the shop that made it, under EU consumer rules for a defective or non-conforming product. And at every one of them, marketplace or specialist, a made-to-order deck is excluded from the 14-day right of withdrawal.
VAT and customs, in one paragraph
Inside the EU, VAT is in the price you see and that's the end of it. From the UK, China or the US, every parcel pays import VAT on arrival (there's been no low-value exemption since 2021) and, since 1 July 2026, a flat 3 € customs duty per item on consignments up to 150 € of goods value, a temporary rule until 1 July 2028; above 150 € the normal duty rate applies. The courier adds a handling fee for doing the paperwork. Some marketplaces collect the VAT at checkout; if the listing doesn't say so, expect the courier to ask for it at the door, and expect nobody to refund it if you later return the item.
What to check before ordering
- What the listed price buys. A vinyl sheet, a bare deck, a printed deck or a complete skateboard are four different products at four different prices.
- The delivery date, not the shipping speed. "Free shipping" on a board that ships in 30 days is 30 days.
- Where it ships from. Outside the EU means import VAT, possibly duty, and a courier fee at the door.
- Whether you see your design on the deck before paying. A form that takes a file is not a preview.
- Who you'd write to. A shop with an address and a phone number, or a marketplace case form.
- That there's no changing your mind. Custom means no withdrawal right, anywhere in the EU. What you keep is a claim if it arrives damaged or wrongly printed.
Our answer
89 € for the deck with your design, shipping inside Spain included; from 15 € more per order to the rest of the European Union, depending on the country, with no delivery estimate outside Spain yet because we'd rather not promise a number we haven't measured. Sizes 8", 8.25" and 8.5", griptape 9.95 € extra if you want it, one design per order. The complete kit, assembled and the wall mount aren't on sale yet. The full arithmetic is in what a custom deck costs; the countries and the map in where we ship; and if you're weighing vinyl against a print, printed, hand-painted or vinyl.
Frequently asked questions
Why are Etsy custom skateboards cheaper?
Mostly they aren't, once you read the listing. The 36.92 € on Etsy's best-selling custom deck listing is a vinyl sheet you apply yourself; the printed deck from the same shop is 97.49 €, shipping to Spain is 29.53 €, and because the shop is in the United Kingdom import charges can follow at the door. That is 127.02 € or more against 79.95–89.95 € at a specialist shop inside the EU.
Is it safe to buy a custom skateboard on Amazon?
Amazon's buyer protection covers a parcel that never arrives or an item that isn't as described, so the money is safe. What you can't check is the print before it's made, and the customisable listings we found were complete skateboards at 85–101 € with delivery in 33–40 days, made far from the EU. It's fast for a stock graphic and slow for yours.
Do I pay customs on a custom skateboard from Etsy?
If the shop is outside the EU, usually yes: import VAT on any value, a flat 3 € customs duty per item up to 150 € of goods (since 1 July 2026, until 1 July 2028) or the normal duty above that, and a handling fee from the courier, unless the marketplace collected the VAT at checkout. From a shop inside the EU there is nothing to pay on arrival.
How long does a custom skateboard deck take to arrive in the EU?
Days from a specialist shop, weeks from a marketplace. Ours leaves the workshop within 72 hours and arrives in Spain 3–5 working days later; outside Spain we don't publish an estimate yet. CustomDecks.eu quotes 7–10 working days before shipping. The Amazon.es listings we saw quoted 33–40 days, and one Etsy shop in China 11–20 days of making time before the parcel even leaves.
Can I return a custom skateboard deck bought online?
Not because you changed your mind: a made-to-order product is excluded from the 14-day right of withdrawal at every seller in the EU, marketplace or specialist. You can claim if it arrives damaged, if the print is not what you sent or if the size is wrong. Seeing the design on the deck before paying is what stands in for the return you won't have.
Which is the cheapest place to buy a custom skateboard deck in the EU?
Delivered to an address in Spain, for a printed deck: Eina at 89.95 € with free shipping, ours at 89 € with shipping included, CustomDecks.eu at 102.90 € (79.95 € plus 22.95 € shipping, free from 200 €), Etsy's IDYD at 127.02 € plus import charges. The cheaper listings are a vinyl sheet or a complete skateboard, which are different products.
